Review of Colorado Springs, Colorado

Used to be a nice place to live
Star Rating - 2/15/2008
I moved to Colorado SPrings in the late 60's when there was 60,000 people here. It was the largest city I had every lived in but it was still small potatoes compared to what it is now. With the population (40 years later) approaching 500,000 it is just too much. The traffic is terrible, neverending road construction, road rage and inconciderate drivers. Also the climate is really starting to get to me. It's a lot hotter in the summer here than it was in 1968, seems like a much more desert-like hot to me and in the winter are the far extremes, with way to many days in the single digits for my taste and the cold winds only compound the problem. Everyone thinks of Colorado as such a liberal state...not so. Colorado Springs is a hot bed for organizations, like Focus on the Family, New Life Church and many other world religious organization that tries to dominate the public thinking and voting. Remember Colorado SPrings is where the anti-gay rights amendment was born! Crime is on the rise, the economy is suffering, funds have been cut to city and county entities as well as schools, so police and fire protection as well as the education of our children is suffering. BUT on the UP side, COlorado SPrings is a beautiful city, with a lot of culture, art and the view of the mountains is to die for! As I approch retirement age I am torn, do I stay here where my friendships and support are or do I move closer to my daughter and grandchildren in KY where the cost of living is much lower?
